The first of some pictures

I'm really feeling loved over here. You all are great and I hope that these pictures will sustain you for awhile. I just HAD to get these up before we head to Guangzhou because I know we will be getting ready for You You once we arrive (oh, the butterflies are back again). So go ahead and scroll down if you just want to see the pictures :)

We had a wonderful relaxing day at HK Disney. It is much like Magic Kingdom, just a little smaller. They did have the Buzz Lightyear ride, which is the boys favorite. They also had It's a Small World, Space Mountain, the Dumbo ride, and several other popular rides. It was neat to see how things were different, like an asian Cinderella with a blonde wig and an Asian twist to the Jungle Cruise. One of our favorites is the Muppet's 3-D show, and HK Disney had their own version called Mickey's PhilHarMagic Show. It made me think of my sweet friend Lisa who allows us to accompany her to Disney every year and who is there in Orlando right now. We missed you Lisa!!!

Melisa, I told Didi and Neesie that they are now on blog duty. You can expect an email from them with a post from "their" viewpoint.

Here's what you have been waiting for...

We were practically the only people on our first flight (B'ham to Newark). These first 2 pictures show our excitement to finally be on the plane. There are no pictures of the next flight (Newark to HK)...we didn't look near this happy I promise :)

Carter wearing Didi's travel pillow as a hat...

We took the HK subway (MTR) into the city to meet our guide for the tour. It was very clean and modern.

This is a sampan in the HK harbour. We took a ride on one of these and got to see the many fishing boats where some fishermen and their families live. Our tour guide Alan told us that these house boats will be a thing of the past in the next year or so because the government is taking over and filling in the harbour so that they can build more high rises.

Overlooking the city at the highest peak in Hong Kong.

I love how this blog is becoming a "forum" for you guys (I know Aimee really needs it)! I do remember being on the other side and stalking my friends the Green's, Ferrills, Busk's (and others) so I can empathize. I will do my best to update as often as possible. I think it will be really special for You You to see all of these posts from her aunt Emily (Mimi), and aunt Missa, and to read about what her grandmother's were experiencing during this exciting time. We plan on printing this entire blog, including comments, once we are home so that when she is old enough she can read about this journey.

More pictures to come...

  1. Okay, you guys...This post has been up for at least an hour and no comments yet? I know, it's only about 6:30 a.m. there but wake up and let us hear from you. I love reading your comments too!

  3. Well now I am glad that my little guy woke me up at 6:30 on a Saturday!!! YAY - PICTURES! So glad you all are getting some time to enjoy HK before you go get You You. I am glad Erica got some rest instead of posting the other night - we will all try to be more patient. When I didn't hear after you toured the city, I had visions of Didi being her crazy self and getting you all thrown into a Chinese jail! OK, so the only other thing I am seeing that is being asked is the timing of when you will meet You You. Do you know what time on Monday you will meet her? Aimee, just count back 14 hours from whatever time like if they meet her on Monday at 10:00 a.m. would be our Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. (I think). We are all just trying to get an idea of when you will be with her. Yes, let Didi and Neesie take over the blogging - you will be on Mama duty! Love, Emily

  4. Hey--Erica's Mom--I had to get up at 5 this morning to take my daughter to swimming. I checked when I got up and there was nothing! So I deserve credit for checking this morning before anyone was up!

Erica, I think Buffi had her blog entries made into a bound book for Sadie. You should ask her where she got it done.

I'm so EXCITED for you! You're almost there! Enjoy your time in Guangzhou. You are sooooooooooooooo lucky that you will be there the whole time. Definitely find Jordan's (or it may be spelled Jordon's) baby store on the island. He will do a calligraphy of your child's name at no charge. It's just on regular white paper but it looks so nice matted and framed. We met him on our first trip and when he saw us this last time, he stopped us because he recognized us! He knows our Father.

I'm praying for you, my friend!

  5. We were watching a movie last night with a scene from Hong Kong and were so excited because we knew that is where you are. Thank you for the pictures; keep them coming. We are off to Upward Basketball. We will miss Carter and Jackson. Get a good night's sleep. We love you.

  6. Hi Emily and everyone,

We don't know what time we will meet You You yet. That will probably be my first question when I meet our guide tomorrow at the train in GZ. I'll let you know asap.

    Julian,

I'm sad that we are missing the boys first Upward's games. The boys got to shoot some hoops today during a Highschool musical show at Disney today. It was cute.

    Sherri,

Thanks for the tip about Jordan's! I had heard of his shop but I didn't know about the free calligraphy. We haven't seen the headband and barrette's that you want yet but I'm sure we'll find them in GZ.

    Good night all!

  8. Hi everyone! It looks like you are all having a wonderful time. I know you are on pins and needles waiting to see Clara. We are so excited for you and admit we are excited for ourselves too!! We love the pics and love Aaron, too. It would be no fun if we could not give him a hard time. I am glad you got to sleep some. I hope you have Tylenol PM in that pharmacy of yours. The kids ask about you, Aaron and the boys all the time. Even Reid saw Clara's pic and said, "who dat, who dat"! We will look forward to hearing from Didi and Neesie. I know they are excited as well. I am so glad they and Mr.H get to share this wonderful experience with you. Can't wait to hear and see more. Love to all.

  9. Good morning Hammonds!

SO nice to see pics! Thanks Aaron. :) Ya'll look like you are having the time of your lives! SO, what do you have planned for today? OH, is blogger working over there and also what kind of adapter did you buy and where. Oh, don't answer these silly questions, I'll ask you when you get home!

Thanks Emily for the clarification on how to figure out what time it is in Hong Kong. This really helps! So....we might actually see some Clara pics Sunday night?? Oh, I know your stomach is doing major flip flops. Every time I think that I am actually going to China in a few weeks, my stomach gets so nervous and excited! I can't imagine how I will feel when its the day before. Boy, I am gonna need to take something!
Clara, you are going to be so loved! Your mommy and daddy have waited so long for this time. But, more than having a terrific family, you will be taught about the love that Jesus has for you! He loves you more than anything. I pray that you will love Him too and use your life to bring glory to Him!

    Love you guys,
    aimee
