Oh my goodness...we are in Hong Kong!!!!! I'm sitting here in the Marriott Sky City Executive Lounge using their free internet access because we are Platinum Delta members (and for that I have to thank SirsiDynix, especially Talin and Chris for allowing us to spend 2 months in Utah at a Marriott during the Summer of 2007). This hotel is beautiful and is brand spankin new...in fact they don't have their official grand opening until January 22nd! Don't worry though, we're breaking everything in. We've already blown some fuses, but the hotel staff might be the nicest I have ever met!
Praise the Lord for safe flights and an uneventful travel day! The flight from Newark to Hong Kong was painfully long, but we made it. There was only one little melt down, and it was from ME, when we were unable to get Jackson and Carter's seats next to one of us because the flight was sold out and no one but the flight attendant seemed to care that a 4 year old and 5 year old were going to have to sit by themselves for 15 plus hours. Several prayers were said though, and eventually it worked out. Things will be better on the flight home though because the travel agent was able to get us seats together as a group. Thank you Sue Sorrells!!
And while I'm saying thank you, let me say THANK YOU to Emily for updating the blog for us already!! It actually made me tear up when I went to post and saw that she had made an update. Silly, I know, but the tears are still coming freely. They are good tears though, pure excitement.
And also thank you to those that have commented already. We are so far away from home and it is so good to "hear" from others back home. I know some of you understand this feeling!
It's time for bed now (almost midnight here) but I'm going to post a few quick points that will give you a peek into our day today and then I will say goodbye until our tomorrow:
- On the flight from B'ham to Newark, about 30 minutes in, Jackson said "Mommy, whoever's flying this plane is good!"
- Not 10 minutes later we had some major turbulence and while the adults were making faces and trying not to lose our stomachs Carter said, " Wow, this is like a rollercoaster!"
- While in the airport waiting on our plane I was playing Tic Tac Toe with Jack and he said "I won that one without even cheating". He's such a little stinker.
- If you were a fly on the airplane wall then around 1:00 am our time (with a mere 8 more hours to go) you would have heard Carter say, with small tears in his eyes, "Mommy, I don't want to be on this plane any more."
- On the Newark to Hong Kong flight it went from daylight to dark then daylight to dark again. Very strange feeling!
That's it for now! Tomorrow morning we have nothing to do except enjoy our free breakfast. Then tomorrow afternoon we will take a hald day tour of Hong Kong city. I love you all!!
P.S. Sorry Aimee, I know you don't want me to post without pictures of Clara but please forgive me since we don't have her yet :)

I am so RELIEVED!!! I have not been able to relax until I heard from you all. So THANK YOU for taking the time to post even though you must be exhausted. I would have thrown a major fit if someone wouldn't trade seats for a CHILD!!! So glad you won't have that stress on the way back. Give my parents a hug from me. Can't wait for the next post. Love, Emily

I love your site verse--that's ours for Sammy! This is one that I think of for Clara too...Romans 8:17 "....now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs with God, and co-heirs with Christ...."
'Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this side, for I'm part of the family, the family of God!'
Lots of Love,

Erica,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made it on this side! My mom and I were talking about you tonight, and she is praying for you too. We had the same problem with seats one time, and Isaac was still nursing! I am so excited for you and cannot wait to see pictures of Clara with y'all! We are praying for you and love you tons!

Hello Erica!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought about you this morning when I got up but wasn't sure if you had time to update the blog. I am so happy that you got there safe.
Did you and everyone else sleep well last night?
Thanks so much for the update! You are ALL continuously in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that your flight went well. I can only imagine how you must have melted if you thought your boys weren't going to be able to sit with one of you. I have actually changed seats twice to allow other people to sit with their children. I can't believe that would be a hard thing for anyone to do. I'm so glad it worked out.
It is now 1:40 AM in Hong Kong and I hope you are all sleeping peacefully.
The comments from the boys were so sweet.
Thanks so much for posting! I miss you and can't wait to hear more.
Tell Mother and your boys that I love them!
Missa
I am glad you made it safely and I totally understand how Carter felt on that plane. Something about sitting in those cramped quarters for so long always makes me tear up a little too.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about you all about a million times a day and I look forward to all of your updates. You are already so close to Clara!
I hope that yall can stay awake for your tour! It always took me a couple of days to adjust to such a big time change. Thanks for posting and letting us know that everyone got there okay.
ReplyDeletelove ya,
Michelle B

I'm so excited for you! And so glad that everyone survived the long flight. I can't imagine.
ReplyDeleteYour post brought tears to my eyes.
And we'll keep praying!
Love,
Carissa
YAY for that first long leg to be behind you! I know you will enjoy Hong Kong and I can't wait to see what all you get to do! Continue to write down those little quotes from your kiddos and those little experiences, you will be so thankful in about six months when you look back and remember! WRITE IT ALL DOWN! You are getting off to a GREAT start! Thanks so much for letting us share your journey! We're holding you up in our prayers! Hope you feel the presence of God everywhere you are!
ReplyDeleteAimee is totally cracking me up...I cannot wait for her journey too!
Lots of love from Alabama!

A post from China!! How exciting! I thought of you this morning when I got up and wondered if you were there yet! I hope you are having a wonderful time and cannot wait to hear from you when you meet Clara.
ReplyDeleteAnxiously awaiting more updates,
~Laura
You are there.....YES! You have been on my mind so much today. I would look at the clock and say just a few more hours. We are doing good. I actually got out of the house today. The girls are acting more like sisters--fighting (haha). However, Lily was sleeping and Lia kissed her on the cheek.
ReplyDeleteGive those baby boys a big hug from me. Im so proud of them. Have fun tomorrow and enjoy every moment.
Love you!!!!
Connie
Okay, if the seating issue happens again, this is what you do (it worked for me): Say to the person who refuses to move so you can sit next to your child "Okay, but he has had diarrhea all day, so I hope he gets past you in time when he has to go."
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear from you again!!!!!
Sherri
This is so exciting--we will be checking in all the time for updates!!! Have so much fun!
ReplyDeleteYea!! I'm so happy you all made it safely to HK. I can't wait to hear more!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your tour!
I shared your post with the kids. Avery said, "she is so cute and she is wearing pink barrettes! I finally have a sister!!" Grant is still trying to figure out why Carter and Jack even want a sister?!? Can't wait for your post. Love and prayers.
ReplyDeleteTatum
I love that every time Tatum posts, it calls her Didi - what in the world?
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be an amazing trip. The boys have been unbelievably good so far. That includes Aaron and David:)
ReplyDeleteTayTay (the artist formerly known as Didi)
Thank you so much for taking the time to post on the blog. It is wonderful to get a little taste of what you are doing. I'm so excited for you. I am on Erin's bad list because our filter blocked the blog this afternoon. She wanted to check on you after school. Have a wonderful day today! We love you guys.
ReplyDeleteI still have to fight back the tears when I think of your excitement of being in the same country as your Baby Girl!! It just hits so stinking close to home!! Your boys were cracking me up!! Can't wait to follow your journey to YouYou!!
ReplyDeleteLove -
